Kelly's Foodtown in Franconia, NH Transfers Owenrship
Franconia, NH. - CenterPoint Business Advisors, Inc. is pleased to announce the sale of Kelley's Food Town of Franconia, NH on May 25th, 2006. The business was purchased by Mac's Markets of Rutland, VT.
Alan and Andrea Hall have owned and operated Kelley's for 8 years. Prior to owning the store, Alan worked at the store for Karl Kelley for many years. Alan and Andrea have worked hard to continually build their business over the years. After their many years of hard work, they plan to retire.
Sherman V. "Mac" Allen, Jr. started his business in 1979 by opening the Fair Haven Truckstop, running it with his wife and children. Mac purchased the local Texaco distributor in 1982, and he quickly became one of the largest gasoline suppliers in northern
New England
. In 1994 the first "Mac's Convenience Store" was developed on North Main Street in
Rutland
. Throughout the remainder of the 90's, the chain continued to grow, and there are now 10 company operated "Mac's" gasoline markets, and 10 other stores in NY, NH, and MA that are leased to third party operators.
In December of 1997, the company purchased the IGA in
Stowe
,
VT
and opened their first "Mac's Market". The company quickly discovered a knack and an interest in the grocery industry. Other stores were added in
Rochester
and
Woodstock
, and more Mac's Market's are being planned for 2006.
Just 2 months ago, Mac's purchased Martin's Food Basket in
Whitefield
,
NH
. Mac's feels this area of
New Hampshire
is a great place to do business, with quality employees and a growing economy. They hope their presence in this area will give consumers a quality option for their grocery shopping.
Mac's is interested in returning the small, local store to downtown sites and small communities. In a small town, the grocery store is often the heart of the community. It is a place where neighbors meet and friends chat. It is a place to find out what is going on in town and discover the latest local news while doing your weekly shopping. People come here to see a familiar face and a friendly smile as well as look for fresh produce and competitive prices.
The company is able to be very price competitive with the large chains by simply pricing fairly every day, and avoiding the big, weekly flyer that has become the calling card of these large chains. Mac's works very hard to buy much of their products locally, in order to support the communities that support them. Each store is different, as is each community. Mac's will continue to employ the current staff at Kelley's
Food
Town
and has plans to enlarge and improve the store in the near future. The Connecticut River Bank and Floradale will remain as tenants at their current locations.
Michael Coyle and O.J. Robinson of CenterPoint Business Advisors, Inc. represented the Halls and assisted Mac's Markets in this transfer.
